14.45 Uhr Masterclass: Signe Baumane and the rocky road to her first feature – Signe Baumane (NY)

The animator, curator, illustrator and teacher was born in Latvia and now lives in Brooklyn, NYC. She has made fourteen short films so far, including the semibiographical series ‘Teat Beat of Sex’, a frank exploration of the subject in 15 short episodes. She is currently completing her first feature, ‘Rocks In My Pockets’, that takes a tragicomic look at depression.

In this masterclass Signe will share her secrets on making an animated feature film:
1) how she overcame psychological barriers of going from short to long format.
2) how she financed a feature film in a complex contemporary economy (grants, crowdfunding, private funds).
3) why she chose the subject of mental illness and how it might work for the film's distribution.
4) she'll reveal her step by step technical process of making the film, from idea to final product.
